Am I The Only One?

I hate to do laundry. Well, I don’t mind putting it in the washing machine and the dryer, but I H.A.T.E. to fold it, iron it and put it away. If I could, I would send out all of my clothes or hire someone to come in and do it for me. I think this stems from chores as a kid. My mom used to make me do all sorts of laundry. God, I remember how she wouldn’t send her tablecloths out and make me iron them. So what? Our dining room table sat over twenty. Yeah, it sucked. I have about four piles of laundry and I just walk by them all and pretend they aren’t there. Of course, that sucks when I run out and need something to wear!

On the flipside, my mother in-law is a laundry fanatic. She will even iron underpants. Lordy. Whenever she comes here, as you may have heard me bitch, she will do any laundry that she finds. Part of me hates that with a passion and the other part secretly loves that she does it.

I wonder if I can hold out until June…

Stumble it!

  1. Anything that needs to be ironed gets sent out – and I mean ANYthing. I don’t mind the folding and putting away, but I hate going to the cold basement to work the machines. Mr. Chili, sweetie that he is, does the “switching” for me.

  3. My kids are old enough to bring down their own laundry, and sort it into the appropriate piles. I wash it, hang it up, fold it and they have to take it to their rooms and take care of it. I never iron unless it’s desperately needed. It seems to be a good system that is working, and it’s teaching them, too. My big issue is the last load of towels, I always seem to forget they are in the dryer.

  5. I hate laundry second only to vacuuming. I once got an iron and ironing board from my boss (the first legal job I ever had, I was the receptionist). She was tired of seeing me “disheveled” so on lunch she went and bought them. I still have them. They are still barely used. I could probably sell them on ebay as antique. I think my foster kids ironed more than I have. I buy things that do not need ironed. Ick.

  6. During the days of apartment living, I would hide when I had to go to the laundromat … sneaking in and out in the early morning hours before anyone else was there. Once in a while, I do it now because for a roll of quarters plus some good corner reading time … 1.5 hours all is over except the putting away.

  7. I don’t iron my husbands clothes – he takes them to the dry cleaners – I think that is the secret to our 16 years of marriage! lol. But I HATE HATE HATE to fold socks.

  8. I loathe laundry. My last load always ends up sitting in the dryer for a couple of days because by the time I get to that point…I’ve had all I can stand. As for ironing…if it needs to be ironed I don’t buy it to begin with and if it’s something that ends up having to be ironed after all, it just won’t get worn.

  9. I HATE it! It is the absolute worst. If I can hide it in the dryer, or in a laundry basket somewhere, then I do it for as long as I can get away with it. And winter laundry is even worse.

  10. I don’t hate laundry, I hate dishes. I hate that laundry is never ending and once I finally get it all away I have a whole new load to do.

  11. Ironing sucks, and I also hate to put away laundry. Unloading the dishwasher is also a hated task. I don’t mind putting the stuff in the machines to get clean; I just want someone else to deal with it afterwards.

  12. You are SO SO SO not alone (obviously).

I iron nothing. The last time I used my iron, a bunch of dusty mud blew out the steam holes. If it must be ironed, I do not buy it.

I have 4 loads of laundry piled on my couch at this very moment that need to be folded. They’re staying there, too, at least for the night.

  15. This has nothing to do with laundry but when I read it, I knew you would laugh as hard as I did…

A teacher asks her students if they’re Yankees fans. All of the hands go up except for one student.
“Okay, Bobby. What team are you a fan of?”
    “The Red Sox.”
    “Why’s that?”
“Well, my parents are both Red Sox fans, so I’m a Red Sox fan too.”
“That’s not a good answer, Bobby. If your parents were both morons, would you be a moron too?”
“No, that would make me a Yankees fan!”

  16. Ironing is the one thing I refuse to do. I just can’t get it. I send everything that needs ironing to be pressed at the Dry Cleaners. As far as the laundry I have this “thing” about keeping the laundry closet pile down. Like you I will wash and dry away…no problem. I don’t even mind folding into the basket but there is my bottleneck. They may lay in the basket in the laundry room for days and days and days..until my panty drawer or his underwear starts getting down to slim pickings.
